British Retail Consortium states retail crime is "spiralling out of control".
30th January 2025 - Retail crime is at its highest level on record, according to figures released by the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) on publication of their Annual Crime Survey. Theft reached an all-time high with over 20 million incidents (over 55,000 per day) costing retailers £2.2 billion in 2023/24 (up from £1.8 billion the previous year), while retail violence and abuse increased over 50% to more than 2,000 incidents a day.
